Kidepo Wilderness Camp, nestled in Uganda's remote Kidepo Valley National Park, offers a rich array of activities that immerse guests in the region's diverse wildlife and cultural heritage. Guests can embark on guided game drives across the Narus and Kidepo Valleys, where they may encounter elephants, lions, giraffes, and other wildlife in their natural habitats. For bird enthusiasts, the park is a haven with over 476 recorded bird species, including the unique Karamoja Apalis and the majestic ostrich .
Beyond wildlife viewing, the camp provides opportunities for guided nature walks and hikes to areas like the Lamoj Mountains and Namamukweny Valley, allowing guests to experience the park's landscapes up close. Cultural visits to local Karamojong villages offer insights into traditional lifestyles, with chances to engage in local dances, storytelling, and crafts .
These activities, combined with the camp's rustic charm and the park's untouched beauty, provide an authentic and enriching safari experience in one of Africa's most secluded wilderness areas.
The lodge emphasises sustainability and environmental conservation. It utilises solar lighting throughout the premises and provides solar-powered hot water for showers, ensuring minimal environmental impact while offering modern comforts.
Kidepo Wilderness Lodge is committed to supporting the local community. Future plans include establishing a soap-making enterprise for local women, developing walking trails for tourists, building a school and health centre, initiating tree planting projects with guests, and training community members to become local guides and combat poaching.
The best time to visit Kidepo Valley National Park is during the dry seasons from December to February and June to September. These months offer ideal conditions for wildlife viewing, as animals gather around water sources and the roads are more accessible. While the wet seasons from March to May and October to November bring lush landscapes and fewer tourists, they can also make travel more challenging due to muddy roads and dispersed wildlife. For the best overall experience, the dry months are recommended.
Try to keep your wardrobe colours as neutral as possible. Consider packing the following items:
Rain jacket - there is no formal “dry” season. Long trousers, long shirt/top and waterproof hiking shoes for trekking, hiking socks (fire ants are not pleasant), gaitors, garden gloves, small day backpack, compact or easy-to-carry camera with zoom.
Pack a hat, buff, sunblock, water bottle, electrolyte supplements, warm clothes for around the lodge and waterproof bags for your gear.
Kidepo Valley National Park offers a remote and wild safari experience unlike anywhere else in Uganda. Tucked away in the country’s northeast, near the borders of South Sudan and Kenya, the park is known for its dramatic landscapes—expansive savannahs, rugged mountains, and sweeping valleys. Visitors can expect excellent wildlife viewing, with chances to see lions, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and the elusive cheetah, along with over 470 bird species. The park’s isolation means fewer tourists, allowing for a more exclusive and immersive experience. Cultural visits to nearby Karamojong communities add depth to the journey, offering insight into one of Uganda’s most traditional ways of life.
The lodge features self-contained safari tents, each equipped with en-suite bathrooms, hot showers, and private verandas that offer panoramic views of the expansive savannah and distant mountain ranges.
Kidepo Wilderness Lodge offers a harmonious blend of comfort and nature, providing guests with an immersive experience in the heart of Uganda's wilderness.
